You Can’t Build What You Can’t Define: Why Most Visions Fail & How One Sentence Can Change Everything

Last week, we talked about how clarity doesn’t come before movement, it comes through it. We explored why movement without direction just leads to exhaustion and that’s why the first step in building with God is defining the outcome first.

Here’s what I learned while rebuilding KCL:

When I started rebuilding KCL, I had a lot of vision. Pages of ideas, sketches of systems, and outlines of programs, but I couldn’t tell you in one sentence what transformation I wanted people to walk away with.

Since I didn't define it, I kept changing it. Yup you heard me correctly, every time I saw something online or felt unsure, I adjusted. So even though I was “working,” I wasn’t building toward anything measurable.

Then God asked me one question that changed everything: “What do you want them to become through this?”

That question shifted me from busy with activity to stewarding an assignment.

Defining your outcome is not about perfection, it’s about partnership with Heaven. It’s saying, “God, show me what You want this to accomplish, not just what I want to create.”

When your outcome is clear:

  • You know who you’re building for.

  • You know what “done” looks like.

  • You can measure progress instead of guessing.

The clearer the outcome, the simpler every decision becomes.

I might feature a few examples in next week’s Strategy Drop to show what “clarity in motion” really looks like. So be sure to comment your sentence after working on your strategy for the week.

Big revelation means nothing without movement. Here’s your action steps to keep you building with God, not ahead of Him.

Define the Outcome First

Stop overcomplicating and focus on the transformation you want your participants to experience. Take time this week to define your first win.

Your goal: One sentence. One clear promise. One transformation your audience will experience through what you’re building.

Step 1 — Identify the Transformation

Ask yourself:

  • What is the one major change your audience will see?

  • What will feel different, better, or clearer in their lives after engaging with your program/product/service?

Step 2 — Make It Measurable & Clear

  • Avoid vague statements like “learn more” or “grow spiritually.”

  • Focus on specific results: what can they see, feel, or achieve?

Step 3 — Keep It Outcome-Focused

  • Don’t list modules, tools, or tasks.

  • Your sentence should show the transformation, not the process.

Step 4 — Draft Your Sentence

Use this formula:"Through [this program/product/workshop], [your audience] will [specific transformation or result]."

Step 5 — Test It

Share your sentence with someone you trust and ask:

  • “Does this clearly show the result I’m promising?”

  • If they hesitate, refine for clarity and impact.

Tip: When your transformation is crystal clear, every decision you make from content to promotion aligns perfectly with that promise.

The goal isn’t to perfect it, it’s to own it. Once you can articulate the transformation, you can build everything else around it.

Once you're done comment and share your one-sentence outcome or share in the KCL Facebook group!

Next Saturday, we’ll unpack Step 2: Pick One Entry Point which is the key to turning your defined outcome into something people can experience immediately.

TOOL OF THE WEEK: Vision Clarity Roadmap

ree

If you’ve ever felt like your vision was too big to explain, this is your moment to slow down and define what God is actually calling you to build right now.

The Vision Clarity Roadmap is a focused roadmap designed to help you:

  • Define the measurable outcome your audience experiences.

  • Design every next step around that outcome.

  • Stop spinning your wheels on content, ideas, and systems that don’t move the needle.

Do this and suddenly, your big idea isn’t just a dream, it becomes a tool that changes lives.
